The textures of Canterbury in the Peter Scoular Plaza development
Rough and Milne's striking development outside the Environment Canterbury building in Christchurch is inspired by the layers and diversity of the region's landscape. Landscape Architect Tony Milne says because Ecan represents Canterbury they wanted the small courtyard to really represent Canterbury too.
Named after the city engineer in the late 70's, early 80's - the plaza also holds large boulders which signify the runanga of Ngai Tahu. Milne says the rocks were sourced and donated by the runanga.
In the video below Tony Milne explains the narrative behind the project and its inspirations.
