Auckland icon lights up for Matariki
The Auckland harbour bridge is again lighting up for a special celebration - this time to mark the Matariki Festival 2018.
The Vector Lights show, which depicts Matariki stars, taniwha, blazing pōhutukawa, giant waka and kauri, launched on July 1 and will run every Friday and Saturday until 21 July.
The light show and soundtrack celebrates the story of Te Kawerau a Maki’s arrival in Tāmaki Makaurau and their role as kaitiaki over the Waitākere Ranges and kauri.
The show runs for 10 minutes and repeats on the hour from 6pm every Friday and Saturday through to 21 July.
The Matariki Vector Lights show was designed by Mandy Lights in collaboration with Te Kawerau a Maki as part of a smart energy partnership between Vector and Auckland Council in collaboration with the NZ Transport Agency.
The Matariki Festival 2018 runs from 30 June to 22 July - click here for a full list of festival events in Auckland.
