2021 - what might the new year bring?
Just because the clock ticked over to a brand new year at 12.01 on January 1 it didn’t mean the world suddenly changed and started with a clean slate.
We’re still very much in the throes of dealing with a global pandemic, and while New Zealand has been luckier - because in many ways it was bolder at the beginning - than other countries, that could change at any time.
COVID-19 has forced change upon everyone. And while there have been many negatives, there have also been positive impacts.
Our lives in many ways became simpler. There was less traffic, more nature, and more innovation. We had to rethink the way we worked, communicated and designed.
Many landscape architects LAA has dealt with over the last few months have been buoyed by the resilience and adaptability those in the profession have shown. They see opportunities in the challenges presented by the pandemic, although they’re cautious about whether funding will be available to make the most of them.
Most we spoke to agreed countries can’t continue to behave in the way they did pre-COVID.
